Lily
Relative Poem

So tiny in my arms she is my sister.
So bright and determined she tries to speak
so hard that she tries she squeals and screams.
Like a monkey her hair sticks up in the back.
Like a chickadee she chirps at me.
When there is a scare she will stare around with big eyes.
When you try to soothe her you realize the brown is nearly black and pupil barely visible.
When she is laughing her mouth opens as wide as it can and displays a pink grin.
She has a swooping nose with a little button on the end.
She has a tendency to brag when she tries to stand.
She will grab my hands so hard she leaves a scratch.
Is there a reason why she will only sleeps with her toes scrunch up?
Is there a reason why she will only sleep next to my mother?
Is there a reason why she sucks her thumb when she feels scared?
New to the household she tries to fit in.
New to the world she wants to explore in the safety of my mother's arms.
New to my sisters I know she'll be tough.
Here now she listens to me sing and mimicks.
Here now she knows to avoid scary relatives.
Here now she begins to know what to expect of the life she is starting to have.
So bright and determined she tries to speak
so hard that she tries she squeals and screams.
Like a monkey her hair sticks up in the back.
Like a chickadee she chirps at me.

Poetic Elements:
One of the poetic elements I used in this poem is a simile when I compare Lily to an Italian, a monkey, and a chickadee in stanza two.
Another poetic element I used was repitition. At the start of each stanza there is a new pattern of how the stanza starts. In example: So..., Like..., She..., Is..., New..., Here....
I also used hyberboles and visual imagery.
